Page Rank(PR) and Recent Google PR Updation

Dear Readers, first of all I would like to Wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2010.

So, Google has geared up the New Year with the PR updation for many websites (happened on 31st December 2009). I guess I am a bit late in giving out this news since I was out of station but the webmasters who sell the websites, links, pages will be much aware of this updation.

What exactly is the PR or the Page Rank?

To tell in a simple manner; Page rank is nothing but the weighted form of link popularity or it can be put in this way; page rank is the rank given by the Google search engine to the websites or web pages for the relevancy of the web page to the entered search keywords. Google toolbar (http://www.google.com/toolbar/ff/index.html) can be downloaded and used in order to know the PR of your web page.

When Google does this PR updation; there is a possibility of the increase in page rank as well as decrease depending on the relevancy of the web page as mentioned above.

PR of a web page can be increased by having good number of backlinks and the quality of the backlinks do matter i.e. if your site has backlinks with high PR and less outbound links; then definitely the PR of your site will increase since the high PR sites advertise the links of good relevant sites. So if your site has good number of quality backlinks; then your site is considered to be popular.

Will a high PR site generate good sales and business compared to the low PR sites?

The answer is No.

No matter what the PR of a site is; the sales and business of a site will be directly proportional to the sites which results when a keyword is searched i.e. it completely depends on Search engine results page (SERPs). Your existence in the internet must be shown by having keywords that are relevant to the page/site. If the web page has the relevant keywords and results in the search engine then it would display in the top positions of the search engine thereby generating good number of clicks as well as sales.

There are cases wherein good results are obtained with No PR sites for highly competitive searched keywords thereby resulting in very good profit.

Then why does a site need high PR or what is the importance of having a good/high PR?

As already mentioned above, one of the reasons is if your site has backlinks from high PR sites then it will help in the growth of your site. Webmasters make use of this in order to get good price by selling high PR websites. Also, good PR will help the people who have blogs/blog posts that promote a websites or products or any kind of services i.e. it works as a good promotional catalyst.

So, I conclude that PR is one of the important criteria to know the quality of the web page, and also helps the webmasters in turn the other web sites linking to the high PR sites.
